Amaranth nalgene bottle sells for $128.50

‘Memorabilia’ of failed hedge fund Amaranth for sale on Ebay.

Is it funny? Or is it a bit weird? ‘Memorabilia’ of failed hedge fund Amaranth is being auctioned off on Ebay. A Nalgene bottle stamped with the name of the fund received four bids and was finally bought for $128.50. If that seems a bit pricey, still up for grabs by the time of press, and with a bid of only $10.95, was the following: Original, new, unworn hat and green polo shirt from hedge fund giant Amaranth. “Own a piece of hedge fund history!” says the seller. “I received these items as a former employee of Amaranth back in its heyday, and have kept them in storage since. The hat is a much older one, unlike the newer and more common styles. Adjustable size in back, with word “Amaranth” on front and “alpha” logo as well. The shirt is a medium-size, Izod-brand, green polo with the Amaranth logo on the left breast. Never worn, though I washed the shirt since it had been in storage. Perfect condition, has all buttons, no frays.” In addition, the lucky buyer will receive two business cards of both the chief risk officer and of the head of recruiting at Amaranth. “These are in very nice condition, but with slight wear to the corners.” One has to question this former employees’ foresight to store away Amaranth goods. Perhaps as part of the due diligence process; it might be a good idea to start checking former employees’ cupboards.
