Symetra Financial appoints industry veteran as CFO

Symetra Financial, the insurance and financial services group formerly known as Safeco Life & Investments, has named life insurance industry veteran Oscar Tengtio as its new CFO. Tengtio has 25 years experience in the life insurance industry and has held posts at GE Financial Assurance and, most recently, Farmers New World Life Insurance, the life insurance unit of Farmers Group, where he was CFO.

Symetra CEO Randy Talbot says: ?Oscar brings with him a wealth of experience in leading and developing a top notch financial organization. We look forward to having someone of this calibre take on this key leadership role as we profitably build our newly independent company.?

Safeco sold its life and investments operations to a group of investors led by White Mountains Insurance Group and Berkshire Hathaway in March this year. The remaining insurance and financial services operations came under the newly formed Symetra, which began doing business in September.
