Bancolombia is the biggest and most transparent bank in Colombia, although it is not the most profitable. That distinction goes to its perennial rival, Banco de Bogotá. But Bancolombia is a single entity with a first-rate reputation, which makes its workings and market position easier to understand.
In debt, the sovereign mandated five different banks to lead manage its various bond issues. Only one of those, however, was involved in a private-sector deal as well: Citigroup, which was co-lead on the debut $500 million seven-year bond deal for brewer Bavaria in October.
