Equity market round up: The month in numbers

63,300,000,000 the amount in dollars of equity capital raised by financial institutions in the third quarter of 2008. The quarterly amount is the second highest on record after the second quarter of 2008, when financial institutions raised a record $109.1 billion. Finance sector ECM deals accounted for nearly half of the total volume of transactions in the third quarter.

25 the percentage drop in global equity capital markets revenues in the first nine months of the year compared with the same period last year. Dealogic estimates that revenues have fallen from about $15.4 billion to $11.6 billion. Despite the drop, ECM revenues still made up 55% of total capital market revenues at investment banks in the third quarter.

42 the year-to-date percentage drop in the MSCI Eafe Index of developed countries.

57 the year-to-date percentage fall in the MSCI Bric index.

53 the percentage decline in equity capital raised in the Bric countries year-to-date.
