SG hires Shooter for hedge fund sales

Société Générale has hired Simon Shooter for its London-based hedge fund sales team, as the French bank continues to restructure its global FX sales business, the bank has confirmed.

Shooter comes to SG after almost a decade working for buy-side institutions, either in FX trading or portfolio management roles, having started his career as a trader’s assistant at Brevan Howard. He will report to Marc Zaffran, head of EMEA FX sales, and completes the new hedge fund sales team. In addition to strengthening the hedge fund sales team, SG is building up its real-money but also central banks & sovereign sales team.

While SG already covers these clients within its Financial Institutions sales team, SG plans to provide a tailor-made advisory & execution service to each specific clients segments: Hedge Funds, Real Money, Central Banks and Banks where SG will leverage off its extensive presence in the CEE region, Marc Zaffran, Head of EMEA FX sales, told EuromoneyFXNews.

In the CEE region, excluding Russia, SG was ranked seventh in this year’s Euromoney FX survey with a market share of 3.22%. It rose five spots from the previous year.

Shooter, who is the younger brother of Ben Shooter, who was recently hired by JB Drax, a London-based agency broker, after almost 12 years with Credit Suisse where he rose to be global head of FX sales. The two brothers both attended Hasmonean High School in northwest London, which counts Alan Howard, founder of hedge fund Brevan Howard, as one of its most illustrious alumni.

Simon Shooter joins SG after a brief stint at Mint Partners, where he traded listed derivatives. Before that he was a global macro portfolio manager at hedge fund Mansard Capital for two years, after spending 17 months as an FX trader at the family-owned investment fund Manro Haydan Trading.

Shooter also had a stint with Shooter Fund Management, a volatility strategy hedge fund, run by another of his brothers, Mark, which focused on trading equity index volatility. The fund was closed in 2007. Mark Shooter is now a Conservative party councillor for the London Borough of Barnet.
