Equity market round up: Going up

Emerging markets Equity indices in emerging markets outperformed those of developed markets in 2007, rising 42% compared with a gain of just 9.4% in developed markets, according to Standard & Poor’s global stock market review, The World by Numbers.

ECM revenues Investment banks earned $6.7 billion in revenue from equity capital markets globally in the fourth quarter of 2007. ECM revenues accounted for 62% of all capital markets revenues as the credit crisis dragged debt market revenues down.

Brics ECM issuance from Bric countries increase 97% in 2007. Companies in Brazil, Russia, India and China raised $255.9 billion in 2006, with Chinese A share volume alone amounting to $78.1 billion.

Equities trading volumes in China The turnover on stock markets in mainland China reached an estimated $6 trillion in 2007. This compares with $1.1 trillion in 2006.

Renewable energy Renewable energy companies raised a record $22.4 billion in equity in 2007, compared with $10.1 billion in 2006.
