FX people moves: FOA elects new chairman, Steve Sparke

The Futures and Options Association has elected Steve Sparke as its chairman. His appointment follows the retirement of the much-liked and respected Roy Leighton. Sparke has worked in the market for 27 years in the City, both as a trader and a futures and options service provider. Most recently he was global head of UBS exchange-traded derivatives; he currently holds a number of executive and non-executive directorships, including a seat on the board of Euronext.liffe.

As he welcomed Steve Sparke’s appointment, FOA chief executive Anthony Belchambers also paid tribute to Leighton: “Steve Sparke is a key appointee in today’s changing and increasingly challenging trading environment. Looking back for a moment, however, I would just like to pay a personal tribute to Roy Leighton. He has worked tirelessly for the industry since his election as chairman in December 1999. His unparalleled experience of financial markets and the derivatives sector has been of enormous value to the FOA membership, wider City interests and to me as chief executive. We wish him well in his continuing role as chairman of the Financial Services Practitioner Panel and on his new appointment to the board of the Dubai Mercantile Exchange and shortly to the chair of a London-based Asian private equity fund.”
