In the US, Wells Fargo is a force to be reckoned with. In the first quarter of 2013, the bank posted a 22% increase in profits. It was the 13th consecutive rise in earnings and the eighth consecutive quarter to break a record. Wells Fargo has some 6,200 branches across 39 states with 30,000 bankers, yet its success is largely attributable to its ability to maintain a level of customer service similar to that of a smaller community bank. This year it is Euromoney’s best bank in the US. Carrie Tolstedt is the head of community banking at Wells Fargo and says much of the bank’s success is due to its culture that combines teamwork and collaboration with local decision making.
