Euromoney’s annual best finance minister and best central

bank governor presentation saw hundreds of leading

figures in finance gather to honour the winners during the

IMF/World Bank meetings. The reception was held at the

Willard InterContinental, a historic hotel in the heart of

Washington, DC.

Euromoney’s publisher Neil Osborn presented the prizes

this year to Mladjan Dinkic, Serbia’s battle-hardened economy minister, whose uncompromising approach has

helped turn around his country’s fortunes; and Henrique Meirelles, Brazil’s central bank president, who has brought

financial stability to the Latin nation. In addition, a special

lifetime contribution award was made to Hamad Al-Sayari,

governor of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, who has

held the position since 1983 and is one of the longestserving

central bank chiefs in the world. All three winners

brought a strong local contingent with them including press,

dignitaries, and senior bankers. The reception was even

shown on Serbian TV.
