Asia Awards for excellence 2006 winners

Asia's best bank in 2006 is retained by the same bank that has held steadily on to it for the past seven years. There are few indications that it will relinquish this award soon.

Citigroup is once again Asia’s best bank, a position it has held for the past seven years. There are few indications that it will relinquish its hold on this award soon. Asia is one of Citigroup’s key growth areas globally and the strong economic performance from the region also shows up in the bank’s books.

With Asia’s capital markets so strong over the past 12 months, Citigroup’s corporate and investment banking division produced record revenues and first-quarter 2006 net income of $414 million, up 29% on the previous year’s first quarter. That figure includes a significant contribution from one of Citigroup’s cash cows, the cash management and investor services division, that flatters the bottom line somewhat.
