Best bank 2025: OTP Bank

Following the strategic merger of Nova KBM and SKB banka in 2024, OTP Bank has solidified its position as Slovenia’s second-largest banking entity, claiming a significant 24.5% market share in customer loans. This pivotal consolidation underlines the bank’s substantial growth trajectory, which sees it take Euromoney’s award as Slovenia’s best bank.

The bank’s financial performance in 2024 stood out with a robust net profit of €311.4 million ($364.5 million), marking an impressive return on equity after tax of 17.9%. This financial health, further complemented by a 3.9% increase in net interest income year-on-year, underscored the bank’s operational efficacy and financial stability.

In the digital arena, OTP Bank exhibited exceptional digital adoption, with over 96% of financial transactions conducted online. Innovations such as the AI chatbot Niko and the introduction of remote onboarding for non-customers through mBank@Net were central to enhancing customer experience and service efficiency.

OTP Bank also demonstrated commendable commitment to sustainable financing. In 2024 alone, it channelled more than €250 million into green and transition-enabling financing, including €122 million allocated to green investments.

The bank also introduced corporate credit facilities focusing on e-mobility and renewable energy projects, reflecting its proactive role in supporting environmental initiatives.

The introduction of contactless payments options such as Google Pay, Apple Pay and Garmin Pay, alongside expanded services in wealth management and bundled offerings, illustrated OTP Bank’s focus on broadening its client engagement and staying abreast of technological advancements in payment solutions.

This comprehensive approach to banking services has not only elevated client experiences but also significantly contributed to OTP Bank’s standing in the financial sector of Slovenia.
