A hero comes along and says it with flowers

Deutsche Bank has set itself high standards when it comes to entertainment. In previous years, its annual credit derivatives conference, held in Barcelona every July, has featured veteran rocker Rod Stewart and pop princess Kylie Minogue, to name but two.

The bank maintained its reputation this year when, after dinner at the Palau Nacional, the turn was revealed to be none other than Mariah Carey. Mariah, whose hit "We Belong Together" recently celebrated its twelfth week at the top of the US charts, played a mixture of new material and old favourites like "Dreamlover" and "Hero" that soon had the audience on their feet.

Our admiration must go, however, to the Deutsche client who took a single rose from a floral arrangement on his table, worked his way to the front of the crowd and, to his delight, presented it to Ms Carey after she re-emerged for her encore. She graciously accepted the gift.
