Best bank: Banco Pichincha
Banco Pichincha is the country’s largest bank by a significant margin, with $21.5 billion in total assets in 2025, and holding 29.1% of Ecuadorian bank loans. Its customer base has expanded strongly, rising 117% since 2018 to reach 6.6 million clients, equivalent to more than one in three Ecuadorians. Younger customers aged between 26 and 35 are the largest customer segment, and growth here has underpinned the bank’s robust performance in recent years.
On the retail side, the bank has clearly segmented its customer propositions to cover youth, salaried workers, seniors, affluent clients and private banking customers, with tailored service models, products and digital capabilities for each.
