Santander built its trade and working capital franchise to finance the entire commercial cycle, not just shipments and invoices. That approach came into focus in 2025, as tariffs reshaped clients’ sourcing decisions, inventory purchases and cash needs.
Over the past decade, the bank has expanded its offering from purchase orders and inventory to supplier payments, receivables and guarantees. That breadth helped Santander support clients facing procurement pressures and grow its franchise.
“We anticipated this shift two or three years ago and positioned Santander to help clients navigate it,” says Enrique Rico, global head of trade and working capital solutions at Santander Corporate and Investment Banking.
