First Abu Dhabi Bank’s (FAB) Global Corporate Finance division illustrates how a balance sheet-led approach can scale across multiple financing specialities while still retaining an unmistakably Middle Eastern centre of gravity.
League table data shows it finished the year as the region’s number-one loan bookrunner by number of transactions, capturing about 11% of MENA market share and arranging more than 300 bilateral, club and syndicated loans. It was also the top administrative agent, handling almost a third of all deals booked in the region.
A cornerstone of its performance was conventional lending: the corporate, sovereign and financial-institutions team steered more than 150 syndicated, club and bilateral facilities, together worth about $130 billion, for Gulf government-related entities and blue-chip multinationals.
Another source of strength was the bank’s leveraged finance franchise.
