In electronic foreign exchange, speed matters most when it produces a better trading outcome: headline latency figures alone are of limited value if performance deteriorates when markets become busy, risk checks delay execution or clients cannot see where time is being lost.
That broader understanding of latency is central to Fluent Trade Technologies’ proposition. Its platform addresses the full electronic trading lifecycle, from market-data ingestion and aggregation through pricing, risk validation and execution to price distribution and post-trade processing. Rather than treating each function as a separate technology problem, Fluent combines them within a modular software framework designed to provide low and predictable processing times.
The company reports wire-to-wire latency of 14.2 microseconds and a 60-microsecond tick-to-trade time. The platform can also process 120,000 inbound and 10 million outbound messages a second. Fluent stood out in this category because it backed up these performance measures with resilience, transparency and tangible benefits for liquidity providers.
Speed that holds up under pressure
Fluent’s technology has its roots in high-frequency trading. It applies techniques used to capture, normalise and store market data rapidly, adapting concepts associated with hardware-based processing to a software platform suited to FX’s fragmented liquidity structure. The resulting market-connectivity solution became the foundation for the company’s wider product range.
A defining feature is deterministic performance. Fluent says its processing times remain predictable when message traffic rises, rather than slowing or fluctuating under pressure. This matters during periods of volatility, when stale data and uncertain response times can force liquidity providers to widen spreads, impose longer market checks or rely more heavily on last look. More consistent performance gives a provider greater confidence that its market data, pricing and distribution processes will run within an expected timeframe.
Fluent continued to reduce those processing times during the review period. The company reports cutting latency in its market-connectivity component by a further 20% over 12 months. It says that because the reduction also feeds into other parts of the platform, the cumulative improvement across an end-to-end workflow can be two or three times greater.

The architecture is designed to make efficient use of server resources. Individual elements of the trading workflow are allocated dedicated processor cores and can operate autonomously on the same hardware. This avoids the additional latency that can arise when data moves between servers or locations.
Fluent backs this design with regular stress testing. Its market data replayers can compress a full trading day into about 20 minutes, and the company tests the system at 10 times the expected speed and load at least every couple of weeks. Its resilience model uses live-live servers in separate data centres, with service switched between them each week. This means the secondary environment is already running the current software and can take over immediately if needed.
Low latency also extends to risk control. Market-price and credit checks are conducted concurrently rather than consecutively, with Fluent saying that a set of risk checks can be completed in less than two microseconds. This reduces the time between an order arriving and the firm deciding whether it can execute. For a liquidity provider, the commercial effect is the ability to accept more flow while reducing rejections caused by a market move during processing.
Connectivity with commercial purpose
Fluent supports the complete electronic FX lifecycle, including aggregation, pricing, execution, risk management, smart order routing, auto-hedging and straight-through processing (STP). Its connectivity reaches approximately 140 liquidity sources and covers spot FX, swaps, forwards, NDFs, non-deliverable swaps, precious metals, futures, fixed income and cryptocurrency. Clients can use individual modules or deploy the broader platform.
“Winning the world’s best low latency solution and best connectivity solution only matter if they translate into better outcomes for clients,” says chief revenue officer John McGrath. “Winning both categories at the Euromoney FX awards tells us we’re delivering exactly that.”
Expansion during the review period included additional Latin American feeds, exchanges and NDF venues. One project involved helping a large US liquidity provider establish connectivity with the Chilean exchange. According to Fluent, the work was completed within three months, after the client had spent at least three years making limited progress. The company has also worked with participants in energy and emissions markets, advising on the development of low-latency APIs.
Transparency strengthens the proposition. Network cards timestamp each stage of the data journey, and Fluent supplies the resulting latency information to clients in real time through an API. Its enhanced STP function adds metadata showing the history of an interaction, including price changes, attempted transactions and reasons for rejection. A graphical interface also lets sales teams examine execution outcomes while responding to client queries.
The outcome is not simply faster technology, but greater certainty. Fluent reports that clients reduce defensive pricing measures, including market-check times and slippage parameters, by 90% within three months of deployment. Cleaner data, concurrent controls and predictable processing allow liquidity providers to place more competitive prices, accept more trades and explain execution decisions backed by evidence. That combination of speed, resilience and commercial impact makes Fluent Trade Technologies Euromoney’s global winner for best low-latency FX solution.
