He is joint head of European financial institutions group coverage alongside Antonio Rivela, co-head of European fixed-income sales, and Jamie Robinson, joint head of EMEA FIG coverage. Soanes moved to run European investment banking 18 months ago, having been European head of debt capital markets. He had already shifted the FIG investment banking unit at UBS geographically next to the FIG DCM. He will continue to run IDB FIG. Frank Kennedy, who was running European FIG DCM, is now going into fixed-income relationship management.
It made sense for Soanes to take over the broader management role given Kennedy’s moves into a broader fixed-income role for a defined client base in the UK, Nordic and Benelux regions. Kennedy is still very much supporting the DCM effort.
