Morgan Stanley's site has been running for four years but many changes have been made in that time. The latest version has been available for the past year. Globally, 1,167 companies are registered on the site, comprising producers, refiners, industrials, utilities and transportation companies.
The site is divided into two main areas. The first is news, information and research on commodities. The site also offers reports on the oil markets from two well-respected Norwegian energy consultants.
The second area of the site - where the bank really stands out - enables clients to value portfolios, mark to market and carry out risk analysis. The portfolio page and the swaps/options calculator can help clients to manage their portfolios and exposure. Users can input their portfolios and value them by using all of the marks in the system.
Pricing and charting margins and baskets are also available on the commodities site. This enables clients to construct spread curves comparing one product with another. Users can also create tailor-made spreads comparing some of the most liquid products.
