While many banks in Luxembourg tend to concentrate exclusively on niche areas, such as the funds administration and private banking businesses, Banque Générale du Luxembourg, has continued to operate as more broad-based bank. It offers a full range of commercial and corporate banking services in Luxembourg as well being active in money markets, bonds and structured products. As part of the Fortis group, it has consolidated its position as the country's leading bank, operating 40 branches in Luxembourg. It is also a leader in private banking and fund administration.
Deutsche Bank wins the award for best debt house in recognition of its capacity to arrange large loans and bonds for Luxembourg-based companies. This year, it has arranged dollar and euro loans for Société Européenne des Satellites (SES), the operator of satellite direct to home TV company Astra.
CSFB takes the honours in equities. It acted as global co-ordinator on a $425 million offering of shares in Luxembourg-based Gemplux, a technology company. The deal was completed amid tough market conditions.
