I can do that. Gissa job!

Jobs are scarce and job interviews competitive but how far would you go to get noticed? From a recent survey by CareerBuilder.com, an online jobs site in the US, apparently candidates are willing to try any tricks. Here’s a selection of tactics that employers reported during the survey:

  • A résumé arrived in the post along with a shoe to signify getting your foot in the door;

  • Résumés were handed out at traffic lights;

  • An interested candidate washed cars in the company car park;

  • A persistent applicant staged a sit-in in the lobby, refusing to leave until he had met the executive director;

  • A cake was sent in with a picture and the contact details of one applicant;

  • Personalized coffee cups were handed out in reception; and

  • A hopeful interviewee went to the same hairdresser as the company chairman and got the barber to speak on his behalf.
