Best bank 2025: Techombank

In 2024, Techcombank further solidified its position as Vietnam’s best bank, driven by a standout financial performance and continuous improvement of its digital transformation journey. 

Techcombank delivered excellent financial results in 2024, with credit growth of 20.8% and a low non-performing loan ratio of 1.17%. Current account savings account (CASA) balances rose 27%, pushing its industry-leading CASA ratio to 40.9%.  

Total operating income and profit before tax grew 17.3% and 20.3% year-over-year, respectively. Net interest income surged 28.2% to D35.5 trillion ($1.4 billion), supported by a strong 4.2% net interest margin. With a 114% loan loss coverage ratio and upgraded credit ratings, Techcombank reinforced its reputation for financial strength and prudent risk management. 

Thanks to its excellent execution of the omnichannel strategy by the close of 2024, Techcombank achieved a milestone – adding over 1.9 million new clients during the year and serving approximately 15.4 million customers in Vietnam. More than half (55.1%) of these new customers joined through digital platforms, while 43.6% were onboarded via branches. 

On the digital side, the bank remained at the forefront of its five-year digital transformation journey backed by $500 million of investment with 91% of transactions conducted online and having over 10 million active mobile users.   

Best investment bank 2025: UBS

UBS’s acquisition and integration of the Credit Suisse business significantly boosted its market share and strengthened its presence across Asia, particularly in Vietnam. With stellar M&A and equity capital markets (ECM) performance, participation in landmark deals, and top league ranking by deal value, UBS has been recognised as Vietnam’s best investment bank in 2024.  

In 2024, UBS Vietnam’s investment banking (IB) platform recorded a 28.3% year-on-year increase in core IB fees, driven by a 33.3% surge in M&A fees and a 25% rise in ECM fees – demonstrating strong post-merger strategy execution in Vietnam. 

In the M&A space, UBS advised on three deals with a total value of $1.2 billion, capturing a 26.3% market share and topping the M&A league table by deal value. For example, the bank was a joint financial adviser to Masan Group on a $250 million equity raise led by Bain Capital using a bespoke convertible dividend preference share structure. Notably, UBS acted as sole financial adviser on the other M&A deals.  

In equity capital markets, UBS worked on two block trade deals that raised a total of $389 million, capturing a 40.7% market share.  

Best investment bank for ECM 2025: Jefferies

Jefferies has distinguished itself as Vietnam’s best investment bank for equity capital markets (ECM), leading the market in both volume and value of deals.  

In 2024, Jefferies topped the Dealogic ECM rankings for Vietnam, playing major roles in four deals worth a total of $359.7 million.  

Notably, it was the only investment bank in Vietnam to participate in all four ECM block trades within the country last year. Standout achievements include its role as the sole financial adviser and sole bookrunner for a $202 million block trade by SK Holdings in Masan Group, demonstrating its expertise in high-value transactions. Jefferies also acted as sole bookrunner for a $103 million block trade in Vietcombank, underscoring its versatile capabilities in handling large-scale financial deals. 

Additionally, Jefferies’ strategic expertise was on display in its advisory roles in a $225 million block trade in ACB and a $250 million sale of convertible dividend preference shares from Masan Group to Bain Capital. This latter transaction not only supported Masan’s deleveraging strategy, it also attracted new funding from Bain Capital, marking the US private investment firm’s first foray into the Vietnamese market. 

Through diverse transactions, strategic advisory and innovative deal structuring, Jefferies cemented its position as the leading investment bank in Vietnam’s ECM space in 2024.  

Best international bank 2025: Citi Vietnam

Citi Vietnam has consistently demonstrated growth and innovation in Vietnam’s banking sector to cement its position as the country’s best international bank.  

Over the past decade, it recorded a compound annual growth rate of 34% in commercial banking revenue. During this period, its assets and deposits have increased more than fifteenfold, underlining its financial stability. 

On the digital front, Citi Vietnam launched CitiDirect NextGen, enhancing the online banking experience through the integration of Big Data technology. This platform offers clients high visibility and ensures the availability of 24/7 instant payments via NAPAS. These innovations represent significant strides in improving customer experience and operational efficiency. 

Moreover, the institution has shown leadership in environmental, social and governance initiatives. Noteworthy achievements include orchestrating the country’s first voluntary carbon credit transaction and partnering with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment through a memorandum of understanding aimed at fostering low-emission developments. 

Citi Vietnam offers a comprehensive suite of products and services ranging from corporate and investment banking to securities brokerage, trading services and asset management.  

In an effort to enhance the domestic financial market, Citi Vietnam has introduced facilities such as FX hedging, derivatives, liquidity management and structured funding solutions. The bank also supports the global integration of the Vietnamese economy, demonstrated by its onboarding of 25 new clients that are subsidiaries of Asian companies in Vietnam, alongside facilitating numerous cross-border transactions.  

Best securities house 2025: SSI Securities Corporation

SSI Securities Corporation has been named Vietnam’s best securities house in recognition of its market leadership, innovation and client-centric strategy across all segments of the capital market. 

With a market capitalisation of over $2 billion and total assets reaching $2.9 billion in 2024, SSI’s diversified business model spans retail and institutional brokerage, investment banking, asset management and principal investment, ensuring a well-balanced and sustainable growth trajectory. 

SSI’s retail brokerage arm commands a 9% market share, supported by the country’s largest individual broker team and a nationwide coverage network. Its iBoard platform, a one-stop digital solution, offers real-time analytics, personalised trading tools and access to a wide range of investment products. 

Its institutional team serves over 2,000 clients worldwide and maintains partnerships with leading international brokers such as HSBC, CitiGroup and Credit Suisse. Elsewhere, SSI’s investment banking division advised on high-profile transactions in 2024, including $118 million in green bonds for HDBank and $470 million in bonds for VietinBank. The firm also played a leading role in landmark IPOs and M&A deals, including HDBank, Vinhomes and Vincom Retail.  

Meanwhile, its asset management arm, SSIAM, oversees $593 million in assets under management across 13 funds, reinforcing its leadership in Vietnam’s fund management industry. 

Best bank for customer experience 2025: HDBank

HDBank stands out as a leader in customer experience in Vietnam through its innovative approach to digital banking and customer retention.  

The bank’s digital banking ecosystem saw significant growth in 2024, with over 97% of individual transactions conducted online and a 75% increase in digital transaction volume. HDBank’s mobile platforms, including the newly launched Vikki digital bank, introduced features such as biometric authentication, cross-border QR payments and one-click automation, attracting over 2 million new e-banking customers.  

HDBank’s loyalty and retention programmes also stood out for their impact on customer experience. Its partnership with VietJet’s frequent flyer programme, SkyJoy, enabled customers to redeem SkyPoints across 250+ brands, drawing over 9 million members. The Priority Banking model, targeting high-net-worth individuals, expanded its customer base by 40% year-on-year, while total assets under management reached D245 trillion ($9.4 billion). Incentive campaigns such as the UEFA Euro 2024 travel rewards and the “Year of the Dragon” acquisition drive contributed to a 120% increase in new-to-bank customers, with online channels accounting for over 80% of the growth. 

On the credit front, HDBank implemented AI-driven loan origination systems, reducing loan processing times to as little as three minutes.  

Best digital bank 2025: HDBank

HDBank has been recognised as Vietnam’s best digital bank for its substantial growth and innovative digital solutions in a rapidly evolving financial ecosystem. In 2024, HDBank launched Vikki Digital Bank, a fully digital platform which attracted over 100,000 active users. Its e-banking user base expanded 90% year-on-year to 4 million, and digital transactions saw a 70% increase over the same period, surpassing 100 million. Additionally, HDBank’s digital solutions helped it to gain 2 million new customers in 2024, with 80% being acquired through online channels. 

HDBank’s commitment to digital financing solutions is evident in its automated lending processes. The AI-powered credit assessment integrated into its corporate loan origination system and its various automated loan products – including collateralised and consumer loans – supported growth in financial disbursements and significantly reduced processing times. 

The mobile banking experience at HDBank is enhanced with biometric authentication, QR payment solutions and innovative one-click features coupled with comprehensive card services including the VikkiGO Card Suite. Strategic integration with Apple Pay further elevates customer experience for Mastercard users. 

Elsewhere, HDBank has established the Galaxy Innovation Hub for tech R&D and maintains stringent cybersecurity compliance in line with national and international standards. Financial inclusion is promoted through targeted digital services like the HDBank Rural app and branchless banking solutions in underserved regions, underlining HDBank’s leadership in digital banking transformation in Vietnam. 

Best digital bank for SMEs 2025: Sacombank

Sacombank is playing a leading role in Vietnam’s digital banking transformation, with a strong focus on empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through technology-driven financial solutions. 

It has built a comprehensive digital ecosystem tailored to the evolving needs of SMEs, with more than 200,000 point-of-sale (POS) and soft POS machines, supporting a wide range of payment methods such as QR codes, contactless cards and mobile wallets. These tools provide SMEs with secure, efficient and cost-effective payment solutions. 

Sacombank’s digital services for SMEs include online account opening via eKYC, real-time online disbursement and customised technology solutions for cash flow management and automated reconciliation. The bank has also integrated with national tax and customs systems, enabling efficient domestic and international payments. 

In 2024, Sacombank introduced biometric authentication for online transactions, enhancing security and user experience. Its digital banking platform achieved a 98.8% straight-through processing rate, reflecting the bank’s commitment to operational excellence. 

Sacombank’s strategy also emphasises sustainable development and social responsibility. The bank has supported SMEs affected by natural disasters with preferential loans and fee reductions, while also investing in ESG-aligned initiatives to promote long-term growth. 

Best bank for SMEs 2025: HDBank

HDBank has demonstrated a strong commitment to empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through tailored financial solutions, digital innovation and inclusive banking strategies. In a year marked by economic fluctuations and rising competition, HDBank stood out for its ability to deliver sustainable growth while maintaining asset quality and customer satisfaction. 

In 2024, HDBank’s SME loan book expanded by over 40%, reaching more than D259 trillion ($9.9 billion), while its SME customer base grew by 10% to over 63,000 clients. Notably, 91% of these were micro and small businesses, reflecting the bank’s deep penetration into the grassroots of Vietnam’s economy.  

HDBank’s SME segment contributed 54% of the bank’s total revenue, underscoring its strategic importance. Despite rapid growth, the bank maintained a low average gross non-performing loan ratio of 0.56%, demonstrating strong credit risk management. 

Digital transformation played a key role in HDBank’s SME success. The share of digitally active SME customers rose from 39% to 46%, supported by solutions like e-credit, value chain finance and online loan origination systems. HDBank also streamlined its credit processes, reducing loan processing times to 16 working hours and enabling 10% of new SME customers to onboard via eKYC. 

HDBank’s approach to SME banking is rooted in segmentation and personalisation. From microloans for startups to supply chain finance for established exporters, the bank offers a wide range of products. Dedicated relationship managers provide tailored advisory services, while specialised programmes support women-owned businesses and rural entrepreneurs. 

Its strategic focus on operational efficiency, talent development and partnerships with fintechs have strengthened HDBank’s position as a leader in SME banking innovation. 

Best bank for large corporates 2025: Vietcombank

Vietcombank has displayed progress in product innovation and digital banking capabilities to take the award for Vietnam’s best bank for large corporates.  

In 2024, Vietcombank’s corporate banking division achieved significant growth, with the digital corporate current account/savings account rate reaching 45%, surpassing the wholesale banking average. This was driven by the widespread adoption of VCB CashUp, as well as advancements in ERP-bank integrations and API-based payments, which enabled businesses to streamline operations and optimise liquidity. The bank’s digital-first approach also extended to lending, with VCB Online Lending offering automated credit scoring, real-time approvals and convenient loan management –enhancing access to working capital for large enterprises. 

Vietcombank’s trade finance capabilities were significantly enhanced through the VCBCC platform, which introduced smart contract processing for letters of credit, automated guarantees and digital trade loans – cutting processing times by 50%. The bank also expanded its industry-specific digital ecosystems with solutions like VCB iSchool, VCB iCare and VCB iFeed, addressing the unique financial needs of sectors such as education, healthcare and agriculture. 

With over 14,000 new digital corporate clients onboarded in 2024 – a 128% year-on-year increase – Vietcombank demonstrated its ability to scale while maintaining personalised service. Its advanced onboarding processes, including e-KYC, biometric authentication and sandbox testing environments, ensured an efficient and secure experience for enterprise clients. 

Best bank for sustainable finance 2025: MUFG Bank

MUFG Bank has firmly established itself as a leader in sustainable finance within Vietnam thanks to strong transaction growth and the expansion of its product portfolio. 

In 2024, the Japanese lender significantly increased its sustainable finance footprint in Vietnam, launching the country’s first sustainable deposit product and offering a full suite of ESG finance solutions, including green loans, ESG-linked trade finance and advisory services. These efforts were complemented by strategic partnerships with local banks such as BIDV and VietinBank to promote ESG integration across the financial sector. 

MUFG’s commitment to sustainability was further demonstrated through its active role in national policy dialogues. The bank chaired the banking working group under the Vietnam Business Forum and participated in key initiatives like the Just Energy Transition Partnership and the Asia Zero Emission Community. MUFG also co-hosted high-level ESG workshops with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the State Bank of Vietnam. 

On the ground, MUFG supported landmark transactions, including multiple green trade finance facilities for local corporates. The bank also launched its own ESG report and implemented internal green initiatives such as zero-waste offices, electric vehicle adoption and renewable energy sourcing. 

Best bank for homeowners 2025: Vietnam International Bank (VIB)

Vietnam International Bank (VIB) has raised the standards in mortgage provision to homeowners across Vietnam. Utilising advancements in technology, VIB has streamlined the mortgage application process by incorporating big data analytics, AI-driven credit assessments and automated document verification. Such innovations have lowered the approval time to eight hours from the industry standard of four to seven working days. Additionally, VIB provides pre-approved credit lines, enhancing flexibility and reducing uncertainties by allowing customers to secure finance prior to choosing their property. 

Elsewhere, VIB’s digital platforms, including the MyVIB mobile app and online banking services, offer mortgage management tools. These encompass real-time loan tracking and automated payment reminders, coupled with an AI-powered mortgage assistant that provides personalised support and insights, which is crucial for managing potential financial challenges and accessing homeowner-specific advisory services. 

The bank has also demonstrated its commitment to accommodating diverse customer needs. Notably, a D30 trillion ($1.15 billion) home loan package has been made available for those aiming to purchase apartments and townhouses. This package offers a fixed interest rate for up to 18 months, flexible principal repayment options and a grace period extending to five years. 

VIB also demonstrates sustainable housing finance solutions. These include offering preferential rates and incentives for purchasing energy-efficient homes and green certified properties, alongside a $30 million partnership with the International Finance Corporation aimed at improving mortgage accessibility for low-income sectors.
