This year Vision Banco wins the award for Latin America’s best bank for corporate responsibility.

The firm is both a member of the Principles for Responsible Banking and the Global Alliance for Banking on Values, underscoring its commitment to environment and society.

From just seven employees in 1992, the bank now looks after 800,000 clients and $1.2 billion in Paraguay. Under president Humberto Camperchioli Galeano, its employees have also consistently pushed themselves to be leaders in sustainability.

The bank is a force in microfinance, while inclusion is one of its core values. As one of the leading digital banks in the country, Vision Banco is able to reach into rural areas of Paraguay to provide microcredit as well as banking services.

Building financial resiliency is the bank’s core focus. In 2019, it reached more than 5,000 people with its financial education programme, totalling 1,220 hours of training.

Vision Banco was also the first Paraguayan private financial company to present a sustainability report. For 10 years the bank has reported its management results and impacts based on the Global Reporting Initiative, and now also reports its Sustainable Development Goal impacts.

Its report highlights its continued strides to reduce paper, plastic, water and electricity usage, having worked with NatureOffice for over eight years.

On inclusion last year, the bank continued its commitment to clients and employees with disabilities, hosting multiple training programmes across its campus.

Vision Banco is also committed to gender diversity – 48% of its workforce are women. It also has a product designed for women with preferential rates and add-on benefits such as home or roadside assistance.

Vision Banco has many commitments to the wider community, hosting events and supporting green entrepreneurs, for example. The bank has also been working to support MUA – a brand for products created in Paraguay’s prisons to help support inmates.

The Covid-19 crisis has further highlighted the bank’s commitment to society, balancing a human approach with prudence. It approved moratoriums on loan repayments and waived fees for clients in many products weeks before the Paraguayan government had announced such measures.

The bank was also influential in aligning the response of the country’s national association of banks with the government and the central bank.
