Inflation-linked products debate: Putting a price on inflation

Mark Herne (MH – chair) is a member of Redington’s investment consultancy team. He started his career at CIBC but was most recently with Lehman Brothers, where he was co-head of UK solution sales with a particular focus on UK life companies, asset managers and pension funds. Before joining Lehman, Herne held the same mandate at Deutsche Bank.

Christian Alibert (CA) is co-head of inflation trading at Royal Bank of Scotland. He began in risk management at NatWest Markets in 1992, traded NatWest’s first inflation swap in 1995 and has been involved in inflation trading ever since. He now has global responsibility for non-core inflation indices and non-linear inflation products.

Stéphane Monier (SM) is global head of fixed income and currencies at Fortis Investments. With 17 years’ experience, Monier has specific expertise in international fixed income, credit, asset allocation and currency management. He also has extensive experience developing investment processes combining qualitative and quantitative approaches.

David Dyer (DD) is a fixed-income investment manager at Axa Investment Managers in London and a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries. He has had experience across a wide range of asset classes including equities and the full spectrum of bond investments. He is part of Axa’s global rates team, focusing particularly on inflation-linked bonds and insurance company investment.

Matt Crawford (MC) is portfolio manager in BGI’s fixed-income advanced active strategies group. He has responsibility for alpha generation through strategies involving global inflation-linked products. Matt has an MSc in economics and a BSc in mathematics and economics from the University of Warwick and is a CFA charter holder.

Joanne Perez (JP) is joint head of policy and markets at the UK Debt Management Office. Before joining the DMO in July 2005, she spent six years in the foreign exchange division of the Bank of England after almost 20 years in the private sector as an economist/fixed-income specialist. Her career spans London, New York, Paris and Mexico City working for Merrill Lynch, BNP Paribas, Banque Indosuez and Morgan Grenfell.
