MTN debate: Coping with the crunch in private


Richad Soundardjee (RS) is managing director and head of structured bonds/MTNs at Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking. His team, whose mandate is to arrange structured MTNs across underlyings, geographies and currencies, and vanilla MTNs in non-euro currencies, arranged more than 220 transactions for a total volume of €7.6 billion.

Amaury Gossé (AG) is head of EMTN and ECP at Commerzbank Corporates & Markets. His team is responsible for originating and trading vanilla and structured private placements for external issuers and for Commerzbank’s own treasury. Before joining Commerzbank he was an EMTN trader at HSBC.

Elsa Martin (EM) is head of the MTNs desk at Natixis, which includes primary and secondary business on MTNs, both vanilla and structured. She is responsible for a team that responds to all worldwide reverse inquiries on different types of products, such as fixed income, FX, equity and commodity for all issuers.

Andrea Laruccia (AL) is head of debt capital markets within the strategic funding unit of UniCredit Group. He is responsible for bond new issues, including structured MTNs. Previously, he covered different positions in the debt syndicate and origination departments of the investment bank of the Group.

Wafi Saleh (WS) is head of structured funding desk responsible for EMTNs and structured Schuldschein and also runs the short-term ECP programme at Banesto.

Christoph Christensen (CC) joined HSH Nordbank AG in July 2001 to take charge of international funding operations for the group. Since 2002 he has been head of international funding, where he has built up and successfully developed the global funding activities.

Nigel Sillis (NS) is director of research in the fixed income and currency team for Baring Asset Management. He coordinates the full research effort of the team which includes market, currency and credit analysis. Nigel is a CFA charterholder, an associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and an associate member of the Association of Corporate Treasurers.

Joe Biernat (JB) is chief investment strategist at European Credit Management and a former head of its research department. He joined ECM in March 2000 from BNP Paribas where he served as global head of credit research. He was previously co-head of global credit research at Deutsche Bank and, before that, head of European credit research at Merrill Lynch.

Nathalie Michel (NM) is in charge of private and structured funding for Compagnie de Financement Foncier – a mortgage bank, subsidiary of Crédit Foncier de France, and France’s predominant issuer of covered bonds. She joined Crédit Foncier in 1994, before which she was external auditor at Salustro Reydel.

Jacques Lumb (JL) is executive manager of group funding at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. Jacques has been with CBA since 1967 and has had many responsibilities over the years. The group funding team is based in Sydney but currently Jacques heads a unit in London that is predominantly involved in the sourcing and management of structured debt issuance.
