The world’s best Islamic project finance deal 2026: Standard Chartered Saadiq

DayOne MYR7.5 billion and $1.7 billion syndicated Islamic green term financing facility

The recent DayOne syndicated Islamic green term financing secured by DayOne Data Centers bankrolls Malaysia’s most ambitious data centre build-out. The facility refinances earlier borrowings and funds a 22-site portfolio that already delivers 330MW of capacity, with another 550MW under construction. A sponsor guarantee option underpins the structure, giving DayOne headroom to tap further debt as digital demand accelerates.

The deal breaks new ground with its dual onshore-offshore format: a ringgit-denominated Shariah-compliant tranche sits alongside a hard-currency conventional tranche, broadening the lender universe for a market where local-currency headroom is limited.

Appetite was strong with books closing oversubscribed, the strength of which persuaded arrangers to craft a bespoke common-terms agreement that aligns covenants across both tranches.

The transaction also set an important benchmark for sustainable data-centre financing. Structured under the Green Loan Principles, part of the proceeds will refinance and support capital expenditure for DayOne’s Johor data centres, including assets that meet or are expected to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold or higher certification.

DayOne’s Johor campuses are located at Nusajaya Tech Park and Kempas Tech Park in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, reinforcing Malaysia’s emergence as a major regional hub for cloud, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital infrastructure.

Standard Chartered Saadiq acted as joint structurer, Islamic coordinator and participant in the syndicated facility.
