Economic globalization has created a complex web of global supply chains that are reflected in the trade and cash management needs of regional and international corporates.

In CEE one bank, UniCredit, stands out as the region’s best for transaction services because of its flexible and innovative approach to the cash and trade finance landscape in the region – especially as local and regional champions there are increasingly setting their sights further afield.

Under Claudio Camozzo, head of transactional sales and trade services, UniCredit combines local knowledge and an international footprint to offer corporate clients full-service cash and trade capabilities in the region.

For example, UniCredit International Centres (UICs) provide customers with experienced relationship managers who specialize in cross-border business, speak multiple languages and have deep local market knowledge.

They help corporates identify commercial partners, providing advisory facilities as well as fiscal and legal support.

These structures offer all clients a single point of entry for their international activity. UniCredit’s 14 central and eastern European offices benefit from the bank’s global connections in places such as Abu Dhabi, São Paulo and Shanghai.

Locally, UniCredit is a frontrunner in terms of innovation. In Bulgaria, the bank has introduced two new reporting formats for customers to manage their liquidity position and accounts more effectively. In Serbia, the bank was one of the first to introduce instant payments in response to the EU’s open banking regulation changes.

And in Turkey the bank launched an online supplier finance platform for more affordable and flexible instruments for supply-chain finance.

The bank’s strong transaction banking business is reflected in the numbers. In 2018, transaction banking operating income for the region was €4.3 billion and net operating profit was €2.24 billion. For the last two years, UniCredit ranked first in Euromoney’s trade surveys in CEE.
