Best Islamic bank: Jordan Islamic Bank
As Jordan’s oldest Islamic bank, Jordan Islamic Bank (JIB) continues to demonstrate the scale, reach and innovation that have underpinned its market leadership for more than four decades.
Established in 1978, JIB has built its franchise around providing banking, financing and investment solutions fully aligned with Islamic principles, supported by oversight from its Shariah Supervisory Board. In 2025, the bank entered a new phase of development with the launch of its 2025-2029 strategic plan, Towards New Horizons, centred on innovation, customer experience, digital transformation and financial inclusion.
The strategy aligns closely with Jordan’s broader economic modernisation agenda and Central Bank of Jordan priorities, including digital payments, green financing and support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). JIB’s priorities include upgrading technology infrastructure, improving operational efficiency, expanding digital services, enhancing customer journeys and developing new Shariah-compliant products.
Its leadership position is reflected in the strength of its franchise. JIB remains the largest Islamic bank in Jordan by assets, deposits, financing and investments, while operating a nationwide network of 111 branches and cash offices, and 332 ATMs.
The bank’s product capabilities span retail, SME and corporate banking, with offerings including Shariah-compliant home, vehicle and consumer finance, investment accounts, card solutions and specialised financing structures, such as murabaha, ijarah muntahia bittamlik and istisna’a.
Digital transformation has become an increasingly important part of JIB’s proposition. The bank continued expanding mobile and internet banking capabilities, enabling services including digital account opening, financing requests, instant payments, digital identity activation, Apple Pay integration, QR cash withdrawals and enhanced card controls.
Behind this growth is continued investment in people. JIB has more than 300 employees across retail, corporate, SME and investment functions, supported by ongoing training to strengthen Islamic banking expertise and digital capabilities.
By combining its established Shariah heritage with investment in technology, innovation and customer experience, JIB continues to play a central role in advancing Islamic finance in Jordan.
