The threat of Brexit continues to force transaction bankers to rethink how they structure their businesses, with a number of regional and international banks setting their sights on Frankfurt and Dublin as central hubs for cash management and trade finance.

Western Europe’s best bank for transaction services, BNP Paribas, is taking a more measured approach. Led in Europe by Jacques Levet, head of transaction banking for EMEA, one of the bank’s main aims during Brexit uncertainty is to ensure the continuation of services for clients across the region.

Unusually, the bank is even looking to expand in the UK – potentially filling the gap left by banks moving to the continent.

The bank’s dedication to its corporate clients has registered in recent rankings. According to Greenwich Associates, BNP Paribas is ranked number one for both cash management and trade finance among large corporates in western Europe.

Innovation is a key theme in transaction services and BNP Paribas’s in-house startups in Belgium, Turkey, Italy, Luxembourg and France mean that the bank is at the forefront of digital and tech developments in cash and trade finance.

The bank is bringing fintech developers, startups and digital operators together to solve trade finance and cash management problems. This also allows the bank to create individual solutions for specific clients.

Centric – BNP Paribas’ integrated digital platform allowing corporate clients to access the whole spectrum of the bank’s financial products – continues to go from strength to strength and by the end of 2018 the online platform had signed up 10,000 clients.
