At the unlikely venue of Durbanville racecourse in autumnal South Africa, a little-known four-year-old pipped Like A Rock by a length to win the Maiden Plate over 1,200 metres on April 28.
It was the first win for Euromoney, sired by Pas de Quoi out of Bejewel. The owner is Sir Patrick Sergeant, who founded the Euromoney publishing group in London 30 years ago this month.
“Durbanville is a real country course, fast and tight, but the field can be as strong as those running at Kenilworth,” says trainer Peter Kannemeyer from his stables at Milnerton, near Cape Town.
