Special focus: ADB 2013

In the run-up to the Asian Development Bank's 46th annual meeting of the board of governors – a four-day event to be held in Delhi, India, starting on May 2 – Euromoney has gathered together the latest Asian news to provide a background to ADB's sessions and seminars.

Established in 1966, the ADB, in its own words, is:

“… a multilateral development institution in Asia and the Pacific dedicated to reducing poverty in the region where about 1.7 billion people, or nearly half of Asia’s population, still live on less than $2 a day.

“ADB is committed to reducing poverty through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration. Its main instruments for helping its developing member countries are policy dialogue, loans, equity investments, guarantees, grants, and technical assistance.

“ADB works closely in partnership with its developing member countries and other stakeholders, including co-financing partners and the private sector. It is owned by 67 members, including 48 from the region.”

The theme of the 2013 ADB meeting is Development through Empowerment. According to its programme, seminars will include:

• regional cooperation and integration

• knowledge economies

• jobs and skills for the 21st century

• long-term financing for infrastructure

• industrial diversification

• delivering effective public services

• building resilient Asian cities

Copies of Euromoney magazine’s ADB special edition will be available at the event in the India Expo Centre and Mart, Greater Noida.
