BGC ICE

I sent an email the other day to my old mucker Danny LaVecchia, executive managing director North America and global FX products at BGC, asking if I could have a photo of him in a hat. I wanted to use it as a currency pair.

My wife, who pulled his line out when she was an options trader, swears that Danny was separated at birth from Mickey Dolenz, who is probably best known for playing drums in 1960s made-for-television band, The Monkees.

Danny is a forthright chap and declined as politely as he could. He even promised me he’d send me something funnier instead. Lo and behold, I have just taken special delivery of six bottles of water, branded as bgc ice – Your source of liquidity. Danny reckons they’ve had a massive impact. BGC has distributed bottles to all of its clients in the US and I hear that hundreds of traders now have the pleasure of seeing his mug scowling at them every time they take a sip of water.

I’m not going to touch the stuff. We have rules about freebies at Euromoney, and besides, the bottles have an expiry date of September 2009 stamped on them, which makes me wonder just how pure the water is.
