“Just ask Sunil about his record collection,” was the advice of a Hong Kong-based Citibanker, “you won’t be disappointed.” Sure enough, this question draws an enthusiastic response. “I think I have more CDs than certain record shops in Kuala Lumpur,” laughs Sunil Sreenivasan.
Sreenivasan’s 5,000 compact discs and 3,000 long-playing records are still housed in Kuala Lumpur, where until recently he was Citibank Malaysia’s chief country officer.
An original recording of the complete works of María Callas – a personal favourite – sit alongside Brazilian folk music and the jazz of Jimmy Smith, in a custom-built room that contains four stereo systems.
