Equity market round-up: People moves

Merrill Lynch has appointed John Crompton as managing director and head of equity capital markets for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Crompton joins from Morgan Stanley, where he has been since 1986 and where his roles included co-head of European equity capital markets and head of the client solutions group within global capital markets. Since September 2005, he has been on secondment to the UK Treasury as its senior corporate finance adviser.

Crompton will report to Andrea Orcel, president of EMEA global markets & investment banking and head of global financial institutions, as well as to Jim Birle, global head of ECM, and will work closely alongside Rupert Hume-Kendall, chairman of EMEA ECM and vice-chairman of EMEA investment banking.
