Moldova Agroindbank (MAIB) maintains its top spot thanks to another strong performance in 2008. It remains by far the most important bank in Moldova, with about 500,000 customers accounting for 18.3% of total assets, 18.9% of total deposits and 19.3% of total loans. In 2008 net income reached MLei324 million ($29 million), accounting for 22.6% of the total net income of the Moldovan banking sector, up from 21.6% in 2007. With its 73 branches and 22 representative offices and its continued investment in new technology, the bank is a key retail banking player in Moldova with strong positions in such market segments as payment cards and internet banking.
