Asia market round up: …Clean water in Asia

Tapping into the growing trend for green investing, in May CLSA Capital Partners launched Asia’s first dedicated water and waste management fund, Clean Water Asia.

The fund, which will be managed by fund partners Andrew Pidden and Anthony Wilkinson, aims to invest in the significant number of opportunities that arise from Asia’s pressing need to invest in water and water-related infrastructure.

"Traditionally governments have been the drivers in water management," says Pidden, "and to date there has been limited private sector involvement. This is changing and we are seeing China and India encouraging the interest of small listed companies and large multinationals."

Clean Water Asia’s sister fund, Clean Resources Asia, which includes exposure to water and waste sectors, has generated a 37.5% return between its launch in August 2006.
