Banistmo (Banco del Istmo)
Thanks to its international expansion into Costa Rica and Honduras, Banistmo is now the largest bank in Panama, and the largest private bank in all of central America. It has been growing largely through acquisitions, buying Banex and Bancrecen in Costa Rica, as well as Bancolat and the Panamanian branch of ABN Amro domestically.
