The firm has appointed Eisso van der Meulen to its product team, reporting to Nichola Hunter, global head of product management at EBS. Van der Meulen will be leading product development initiatives at EBS, with an initial focus on global credit management.
He joins from Newedge prime brokerage and structuring team, where he worked from July 2011. Before that, he worked from September 2009 at RJ O’Brien, where he built an FX clearing and execution platform.
From 1993 to 2008, Van der Meulen worked at ABN Amro in a number of roles, including head of FX prime brokerage.
He joins EBS as it embarks on implementing a series of changes on its trading platform after a review by Gil Mandelzis, who took over as chief executive at the broker in March.
The changes were sparked as EBS lost market share amid client concerns about the ability of high-frequency trading systems to take advantage of decimalization in FX trading, as well as their ability to transact currencies at high speeds.
“I am impressed with the direction EBS is taking and its approach of partnering with the industry,” says Van der Meulen.
“It is very exciting to be joining the team at this time and I am looking forward to delivering the product innovations that will lead the market to the next stage.”
Van der Meulen's appointment comes less than a week after the departure of London-based David Faulkner, the former head of prime brokerage at EBS. Falukner had been at the firm for nine years.
