RBS hires three market strategists from BNP in Singapore

RBS has hired three market strategists from BNP Paribas for its research team in Asia to provide research and trading ideas across G10 and Asian FX and interest rates, a spokesperson confirms.

Drew Brick, Rob Ryan and Gao Qi all joined RBS from BNP Paribas this week, and will be based in the bank’s offices in Singapore. Brick heads the team, and is responsible for its overall direction and strategy within RBS’s markets business in the Asia-Pacific region. At BNP, he worked as head of currency and interest-rate strategy, joining the bank from Morgan Stanley, where he held the same position.

Before BNP, he was a founding partner of US-based macro fund Greenridge Asset Management, and a portfolio manager and global strategist for Pimco.

Ryan has 10 years of experience in FX structuring, and will be responsible for the formulation of currency views and the generation of FX trade ideas at RBS, principally in the options space. He began his career at Merrill Lynch in Tokyo, moving to Singapore in 2004.

Gao will cover Asia FX and interest-rates strategies, after holding a similar role at BNP.
