FX comment: A nice evening but no lift

There were a few currency option desks unoccupied this morning. Or at least anyone who was sitting at them was hardly in a fit state.

Apparently a bunch of brokers and dealers were out last night at Roka in Canary Wharf.

Nice place – it’s on the first floor and you have to get to and from it in a tiny lift. The lift is so tiny it only has a four-person capacity – and that’s probably not four option-trader sized folk but four people the size of Kylie Minogue or Ronnie Corbett.

Anyway, seven of them piled in it last night to leave at around midnight. Little surprise then that the lift broke down and got stuck. They didn’t get out until 4am.

Seven of them, nose-to-nose, for four hours – all with their bellies full of sake and Japanese tucker. Nice.
