It felt like being invited up to the cool kids’ party, but we still missed the coolest of them.
Icap’s 18th annual charity day on Wednesday raised £12.1 million – doubtless down to a bit of short-end switching and USD/DKK put-throughs. All profits made from the day go to more than 200 charities around the world.
There were some, we’re sure, who put business Icap’s way out of the kindness of their hearts, and others who thrilled to the possibility of being voice-brokered by such luminaries as Daniel Craig.
But James Bond had already left the party for a martini at home when theweeklyFiX arrived at our allocated time, as had two princes and a Spice Girl.
Prince William is said to hold the record for the largest deal ever brokered. It would be uncharitable to wonder if he arranged the €17 billion deal entirely by himself.
Still, we enjoyed a few glasses of bubbly and rubbed shoulders with the likes of Anneka Rice and the Kiwi bloke from Strictly Come Dancing, as well as the sight of Icap staff all dressed up.

Spencer, in a grey suit, white shirt and tie, was dressed as the CEO of one of the world’s largest interdealer brokers. Not much of a stretch for him, but he pulled it off with style.
