FX news: Volumes cool slightly for EBS and Reuters, but increase at CME

Volumes on interbank platforms suffered a little during March, with both EBS and Reuters reporting a decline. CME and CLS , however, both reported significant increases.


Average daily spot FX volumes on Icap’s EBS platform for March 2010, on a single count basis, were $150.3 billion. February’s volumes were $164.8 billion.


Thomson Reuters average daily spot FX volumes, including figures for dealing as well as matching, were just over $135 billion. February’s figure was $143 billion.


CME also reported its quarterly volumes. For Q1 2010, daily volumes averaged $115.0 billion. The figure for the last quarter of 2009 was $96 billion. The first quarter of 2009 averaged $65.4 billion per day.


CLS settled a daily average of 722,874 sides during March. Average daily values settled in the month increased to $4.15 trillion from $3.88 trillion in February.
