Africa’s transaction banker of the year 2025: Ecobank’s Isaac Kamuta

Few bankers have done more to redefine Africa’s payments landscape in recent years than Isaac Kamuta, Ecobank’s group head of payments, cash management and client access. Under his leadership since 2017, the bank’s cash management franchise has become one of Africa’s most technologically advanced, serving over 550,000 clients across the continent and generating over $600 million in total revenue in 2024.

Kamuta’s achievement lies not only in scale but in strategy. On joining Ecobank from Citi after a previous stint at JPMorgan, he set out to unify the group’s disparate payments systems into a single, pan-African architecture.
