Graña y Montero is awarded best-managed company in Latin America 2014 by Euromoney magazine

For second consecutive year Chilean retailer Falabella wins the category for most convincing and coherent strategy. Grupo Sura becomes the best-managed company in Colombia for the first time, while Credicorp wins the regional category of banking and finance.

Euromoney magazine announces today the results of its eighth best-managed Latin American company rankings, based on a survey of market analysts at the main banks and research institutes in the region. This year’s overall best-managed company is Graña y Montero, the construction, infrastructure and real estate company headquartered in Lima, which has been expanding in the region, with operations in seven countries in Latin America. The company also wins the category for the most transparent accounts in the region, as well as finishing top of the construction sector and winning best-managed company in Peru.

Falabella receives top marks in the category for most convincing and coherent strategy in the region, as well as being number one in the retail sector, and is also the best-managed company in Chile. Meanwhile, Bolsa de Santiago wins best financial exchange, a new category introduced this year.

Credicorp, the Peruvian group, is ranked first in the banking and financial services category for second year in a row, followed in second place by Colombian Grupo Sura, with Banorte finishing third. Grupo Sura is also awarded best-managed company in Colombia for the first time.

Two Colombian companies, Ecopetrol and ISA, win the regional sectors for oil and gas, and utilities respectively. Peruvian mining company Southern Copper tops the regional metals and mining sector.

Mexico’s Fibra Uno wins the regional real estate category for the first time. Other Mexican regional sector winners are América Móvil in telecommunications, Grupo Alfa in conglomerates, GAP in the airlines and aviation sector, and Coca Cola Femsa in food and drink. Coca Cola Femsa is also awarded best-managed company in Mexico. Another Mexican company that performed well in the survey is Gruma, the Monterrey-headquartered group, which is awarded top marks in two regional categories: most improved and best for shareholders’ value.

The annual best-managed companies in Latin America survey is the most prominent conducted by Euromoney magazine, recognizing corporations in Latin America. The survey rewards those companies with the most convincing and coherent business strategies in the region, by industry and country.

The ranking is based on a survey of market analysts at leading banks, consultancy firms and research institutes focused on Latin America. Respondents were asked to nominate the top five listed companies in each of the main survey categories, bearing in mind market strength, profitability, growth potential, quality of management and earnings. They were also asked to rank their top five financial exchanges in Latin America.

The full results of these rankings and the survey methodology are available at www.euromoney.com and in the March 2014 edition of Euromoney magazine.
