Alex Chambers began working in financial media in 1995 when he joined a real time news and information vendor in London. In a career marked more by lucky timing than by talent, he managed to get himself in a position to cover a number of interesting sectors such as financial institutions amid the UK banking’s M&A wave in 1999/2000 and corporates during the telco financing boom around the same era. In addition he agreed to cover the European structured finance scene mainly because of the opportunity of an annual jolly during June in Barcelona.
Showing a true lack of imagination, he has generally only covered fixed income markets and due solely to his longevity has managed to meet a huge number of market participants. These unfortunates only return his call because he knows where they work and is willing to doorstep them if necessary.
Known for his love of fine lunches and grotty boozers Alex has a long list of scandalous market stories and gossip that he trades in return for taking up his contacts' time. Taking pity on him, they sometimes have been known to toss some tittle tattle his way.
