Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML) has hired a new head of Asia Pacific global markets.

Loh Boon Chye is set to join BAML in December and will be based in Singapore, assuming the country executive role for Singapore and southeast Asia, according to an internal BAML memo. He will be a member of BAML’s Asia Pacific executive committee.

Boon Chye will join BAML from Deutsche Bank Asia Pacific, where he worked from 2002 first as Deutsche’s head of the global markets business in Asia and then, from 2010, as the regional head of corporate and investment banking.

Boon Chye is also a former chairman of the Singapore Foreign Exchange Market Committee.

Before his time at Deutsche Bank, Boon Chye joined the Monetary Authority of Singapore in 1989.

In 1992, he worked for the Singapore branch of Morgan Guaranty Trust Company of New York, where he managed the company’s southeast Asia fixed income and derivatives business.

In 1999, he served as the deputy president for electronic payments systems company ACI Singapore.

And, from 2004 to 2012, he was a non-independent director of the Singapore Exchange.

Boon Chye has also served as a council member at the Institute of Banking & Finance Singapore.
