Deutsche: Jain wins as India lose

It was good of Deutsche Bank to wait until after the conclusion of the first match of the Test series between England and India before announcing Anshu Jain’s appointment as co-chief executive of the bank from next May.

Jain is well known for his love of cricket and even wrote a piece on the subject for Newsweek in the build-up to the World Cup earlier this year. (Cricket and banking: Jain keeps his eye on the ball, Euromoney March 2011)

With India in town it’s not surprising that Jain attended the Lord’s Test Match, hosting friends and associates in the Deutsche box, and hobnobbing with such celebrities as steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal and former Indian wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer.

Looking resplendent in his MCC tie (the MCC is the exclusive Marylebone Cricket Club, which has an 18-year membership waiting list), Jain was having fun discussing field placings and shot selection with his guests.

But while July 25 proved to be a good day for him – that was when the news about his new position became official – it was a bad one for his beloved India team, which lost the match by 196 runs.
