Movie posters: Star billings post big gains

Dracula’s original 1931 movie poster sold for $310,700 in April. And one for Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn’s 1954 film, Sabrina, netted $15,480 in March.

As stocks stay volatile and risky, investors have been looking for new places to invest their money. In recent months few other assets can claim to have increased 303% in value in the past 10 years – a record gain when compared with the minus 10% return an investor would have made on the S&P 500 in the same time period.

"Movie posters not only provide you with great artwork and enjoyment but have also been a solid proven investment that way outperforms stocks and real estate," says Ralph DeLuca, who offers free appraisals to would-be collectors at ralphdeluca.com. Christie’s in London is also planning a second poster auction this year following a successful March sale.

Maybe the wonderful world of Hollywood really will provide the investments of the future.
