Desperate bankwives

"This may seem a bit cliché [sic], but ladies, head to Victoria’s Secret tonight (part of Limited brands, ticker: LTD) and pick out something as revealing as you possibly can for Valentine’s Day with your FBF. You may not want to pick out anything red, as it might remind him of the carnage in the market today, but pretty sure anything you buy will do the trick."

So ran the pre-Valentine’s Day advice posting on a new website created by two women dating FBFs – or financial-guy boyfriends – where they and others like them whose "relationships tanked with the economy" can gather to commiserate and exchange tips. DABA (it’s short for Dating a Banker Anonymous) offers a space "free from the scrutiny of feminists" with advice on the likely mood of their finance professional partners based on the markets’ movements on a given day, as well as cautionary tales from readers’ experiences with their FBFs (and occasional FGFs).

There’s also a tongue-in-cheek "shoutout" to Ruth Madoff for smartly pulling $15.5 million from the bank before her husband’s arrest having "paid her dues" during their long relationship, and an entertaining biography of the site’s founders – "Megan" and "Laney". Early news reports on the site appear to have taken it at face value, as have visitors like one "Trader" angered by the ladies’ "narcissistic" attitude. Some more cynical readers might detect the subtle hand of satire at work... head to dabagirls.com and make up your own minds.
