Trade balance with Bulgaria turns to EUR 17.3mn deficit in H1. The Bulgarian statistical office (NSI) reports that the Macedonian trade balance with Bulgaria turned to a EUR 17.3mn deficit in Jan-June, reversing from EUR 5.5mn surplus during the same period last year. The data is adjusted with a downward rate of 7% for transition from CIF to FOB values for imports. Macedonian exports rose 19.6% y/y to EUR 144.4mn while imports grew at a faster pace of 40.3% y/y to EUR 161.7mn. However, the Macedonian statistical office reported that in Jan-May, the trade balance surplus with Bulgaria increased 8 times to USD 45mn. According to the Macedonian institution exports grew 88% y/y to USD 204.2mn, while imports rose at a slower pace of 53.1% y/y to USD 159.1mn. It stated that Bulgaria is the fifth most important trade partner for Macedonia , responsible for 10% of domestic exports and 4.5% of imports.
