Non-performing loans ratio of Philippines' universal and commercial banks decreases to 4.17% in May. According to figures of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the non-performing loans (NPL) ratio of universal and commercial banks (U/KBs) decreased to 4.17% in May 2008 from 4.28% in Apr 2008. The comparative figure for May 2007 stood at 5.33%. During May 2008, the total NPLs increased to PHP 96.04bn from PHP 95.4bn in Apr 2008, while the total loan portfolio (TLP) increased to PHP 2,301.23bn from PHP 2,230.46bn. Excluding inter-bank loans, the NPL ratio improved to 4.98% in May 2008 from 5.04% in Apr 2008 and 6.64% in May 2007.
